I have done plenty of stupid things in my life. In fact, I have had a couple people tell me I should write a book about the stupid events in my life… :-?

I haven’t really been able to post much lately and I have been having trouble not only coming up with good things to write about but also writing about those things once I’ve come up with them. One thing that’s easy for me is my own personal stupidity!

I have made fun of enough other people at WinCo or WalMart that I think it’s time I share stories about myself. :-)

So what stories are on their way?

  • Police encounters & youthful ignorance
  • 4-wheeler mishap, one in a million
  • Motorcycle bliss and the inevitable

Plus I am going to try to get my domain portfolio posted as well as get a workout/diet setup which I will share. Stay tuned!

The Day In Review

Well, today has been both good and bad. I’ll start with the bad…

My girlfriend wanted to go outside since today was a beautiful 78 degrees. I had some work that could be done on a laptop so I grabbed the that and we headed out. Now, the winter up here was much worse than where I used to live and a hard winter even for the area, so I was clothed much more than usual during that time.

Today was the first day since last summer that I have gone out to really enjoy the delicious sun. I should also mention that I’m a redhead…a lucky leprechaun I am! That means I’m white, like casper the ghost white. :-(

So needless to say, my arms and face are now slightly red and I was only in the sun for about an hour!

Well, I can handle the slight burn so the day went on. A few hours later I headed to the gym, which was great as always…except my lower calf cramped in my left leg causing all my toes to curl up. It wasn’t really painful, but very uncomfortable and a big sign that I have not been drinking enough water.

I had to push my toes against a metal bar to get them to uncurl and wait about 5-10minutes before I could finish my workout. The workout was still a pretty good one though.

So, now for the good!

It was payday today! Any day that involves getting money is usually a good day. To make the day better, I worked out arms today and it went pretty well. I measured in at 16″ around the biceps, 13.5″ forearms…which is down from 17 1/4″ biceps and 14 1/4″ forearms from 7 months ago but at least it’s going back in the right direction.

Today was gorgeous after a few days of cloudy gloom and the sun almost always means good for the day.

I also managed to get the majority of my portfolio more organized and parked at Sedo so hopefully that will pay off a little more. Plus I got some other good work done on a project I am currently working on for a magazine down in Texas.

Lastly, I found some great new music today thanks to a good friend down in Boise. 10 Years came out with a new album called Division. New music always makes for a much better day. :-)

So, now I need to get some other work done and work on getting some other posts written since I’ve been a total slacker for this blog! Sorry!

Technology Multitasking Obssession

Saturday
May 10,2008

Either I’m just in the mood for information overload or I just spend way too much time on the computer. I have a lot of things I want to do ya know.

Watch a movie, listen to some new music, get data backed up, blog, get a few dvds burned all the while monitoring system resources. One of the things I really enjoy doing is getting a lot of things done at the same time. :-)

What am I doing right now?

  • Moving data from an external hard rive to be backed up on disc
  • Watching Superbad
  • Burning a dvd backup
  • Backing data to amazon S3
  • Blogging
  • Twittering
  • Chatting
  • Perusing a few forums and intermittently scanning my blog feeds in google reader
  • Monitoring temperatures and internet bandwidth usage
  • And… oddly enough listening to music

What would appear to be utter chaos and “noise” to some people is multitasking harmony to me! Is that strange? In all our fast paced lives, anything to get things done faster and more efficiently is the goal right? But has it become also an addiction?

We implement ways to do more and more things into everything in our lives, including while we’re just having fun. So we’re taking it past getting more done into a need for information at all times and more. I go outside to get away from technology every now and then and some of the things I see:

  • Cellphones
  • Laptops
  • iPhones (I want one so bad!)
  • MP3 players
  • TVs (they seem to be everywhere, gyms, schools, stores, etc.)
  • Radios

What kind of multitasking do you do? What technology helps you do even more?

Today was my first day at my new job. :D The walk to work was terrible! I had to get out of bed and walk less than 10 feet!

I am used to walking quite a few miles every week for work, the gym and whatever else I might need to travel to get accomplished. So today was quite a change of pace for me. It was a really strange feeling getting up and eating breakfast at work, then cranking away at the work for the day.

The first thing I realized is that I will be doing more things during the day than I usually did at an actual work office. Both good and bad.

  • Frequent visits to the kitchen for oatmeal
  • Frequent visits to the bathroom from drinking so much water and not feeling like I should hold it for another 15 minutes
  • Leaving to run a quick errand
  • Managing interruptions during the day so I can actually get work done
  • Multitasking much more than usual

On first impression I was worried that I would have a hard time actually getting my work done. I have a pretty strong work ethic though and working on the computer is what I enjoy doing anyway. What I was surprised to find out was happening was more frequent visits to food central.

I was more surprised to find out how many more things I was working on than at an office. I thought that was very strange.

As expected though, there were many things I very much enjoyed about working from home

  • I can listen to my music without headphones
  • I don’t have to fix my hair in the morning or even shave
  • I don’t have to put pants on before I head out for work
  • I can eat at my desk without feeling uncomfortable and awkward
  • I can work how I want to work without anyone telling me how it should be
  • I don’t have to wear a shirt
  • I don’t have to worry about the tech guys cracking down on me because I visited a potentially bad website either on accident or on purpose
  • If I want to act like a retard I can do so without being judged

Now, for the bad things I wasn’t so fond of

  • No human interaction during the whole day can lead to some form of psychosis
  • When someone sees you acting like a retard because you had the window wide open it’s more embarrassing than your coworkers seeing you act like one
  • You have a higher potential of turning into that creepy guy who never leaves his apartment
  • You being a solo neighborhood watch and listen for kids so you can yell at them :-o

Anyway, day 1 of my new job has thus far gone well. We’ll see how things are going by this friday.

About a week ago I ordered a small set of business cards from Overnightprints.com to replace the ones printed by PrintsMadeEasy.com. Well, they came in today (would have been friday if I was there). :D

Wow. I mean, WOW. It was a night & day difference between the two print jobs. I already mentioned how disappointed I was with the quality from PrintsMadeEasy.com but being able to compare the exact same card, side by side really shows the difference.

Overnightprints.com print job was a nice, thick & sturdy card stock, so it feels like it’s quality just holding it. Then the gloss was very smooth and glossy, quite well done. The edges were cut very smoothly, no rough edges, just clean and accurate.

Most importantly, the print quality was incredible in comparison to PrintsMadeEasy.com. I mean, the colors are vibrant & smooth. You can tell it was printed at well above 200dpi where as PrintsMadeEasy looked like it was printed out of an inkjet printer….wait I take that back.

I have seen better print jobs from standard desktop inkjet printers than from PrintsMadeEasy.

Lastly, the back has the same high quality gloss as the front, just as I requested! :-) I am very happy with Overnightprints.com to say the least. Not to mention that they cost 1/3 what PrintsMadeEasy cost. If you’re planning on getting business cards (post cards, stationary, brochures, etc.), go with OverNightPrints.com

This is not a paid review for them, this is simply a very happy customer. Happy enough, in fact, that I may be ordering more print jobs than just my business cards from them.
