So yesterday I said I would write a post today. It’s 11:30pm…it’s still TODAY! Ok, so what if I’m 30 minutes from missing the mark…ok, I fail. lol

Anyway, when I had taken a bike ride up Moscow mountain, I snapped a few pictures with my phone. So I figured I would give the gallery feature in WordPress a go and see how it turns out.

The first picture in the gallery is a picture from about 3/4 the way up Moscow mountain road. It’s a gorgeous view from up there. Unfortunately the trees block a lot of the view from the cheap camera in my phone but in person it’s pretty neat.

Second is me when I was down at the bottom in front of the information sign…trying to look like I’m not tired. A minute later I scarfed down a power bar and a ton of water.

The third is the road I had just ridden up, which wasn’t bad (especially compared to what was yet to come).

Then there’s me again, sticking my tongue out at whoever was going to see the picture.

The info. sign/board followed by two pictures of the mountain from the road I rode up to the mountain.

The next ride up I will take a camera and find the very top and an open spot so I can get some great pictures. I also need to get some pictures of my mountain bike.

Anyway, this post is really blah blah so sorry. I should have more time Thursday. Tomorrow is my 1 1/2 yr day with my girlfriend and since she is busy with college and I’m busy with work we haven’t had time to go out for around 2 weeks or something. So I’ll see ya Thursday! Oh, maybe I’ll remember to take pictures tomorrow and I can post those!

Ok, I haven’t blogged in over a month and I feel like crap about it but it is what it is. When you’re busy and trying to balance work and play to keep from going insane, things get skipped. Anyway, I have some cool updates with pictures and such coming soon.

I bought a mountain bike and now all I want to do is ride ride ride! In the spare time I have I have been riding from my apartment to moscow mountain and up the mountain (ok, only twice so far). Last saturday I completed a round trip of a little more than 30 miles. From my apartment to Moscow mountain, then up moscow mountain to four corners, then through some short trail that is unknown thus far to me, then through the two loops of the Triple Crown trail, then back to four corners, then back home. Riding up that mountain on a mountain bike is quite the leg workout but well worth the work for the trail riding. I will post pictures tomorrow.

Work has been going pretty good and I think being a work at home freelancer is finally really sinking in. It should have been done two months ago (or more) but I think I will finally be able to finish up my portfolio in the next week or two depending on work. Which then will mean I can get out in Moscow and see who else I can startup some projects for! Very exciting! :-)

Uhh, lets see, what else. I setup Skype more in depth as I am the web administrator for ReadSam.com, I will be working with all the clients who are getting online advertising. My cell phone number is from the seattle area so people don’t want to call it for starters and it uses my precious and expensive minutes with verizon. So I setup a San Antonio, TX phone number for super cheap. Now I have a work number without the need for another phone. Fun, fun.

If you play Battlefield 2142 on a Mac, I have compiled a handful of fixes for the poorly supported game. The biggest problem seems to be PunkBuster as it doesn’t update the game properly and has to be done manually. I plan on posting (hopefully tomorrow) a quick article on doing that as well as fixing a few other things to get the game running properly. And for those who are Mac haters, it plays fine on an iMac. No, it’s not super gaming rig but it’s first role is a work rig, second role is movies/music/entertainment and third is gaming. It handles all exceptionally well. Better than any other system I’ve ever owned and I grew up on Windows.

Anyway, that’s all for tonight folks. Tomorrow I should be posting one or two additional blogs with some pictures of recent adventures and some informational stuff for Battlefield 2142. Bye bye!

Track your Readers!

Friday
Aug 1,2008

This post was guest blogged by Simon Koldyk of ScribbleWiki

If your running any sort of website you most likely have some sort of stats (if you don’t have one check out Google Analytics, its free!).  On a blog you have a RSS feed; but, you don’t know who is looking at that or who has that in their feed reader.

Enter Feedburner, which was bought by Google last year.  You can go to Feedburner.com put in your feed, it spits out a new feed for you and then you just take a Wordpress plugin (or whatever your blog software is) and plug that in.  Done.

Feedburner will give you a couple of things, in the first 24 hours it will just give you some live stats it is keeping.

Then after the 24 hours it will start giving you a feed count which is the amount of users that checked your feed in the last 24 hours whether you posted anything or not (RSS Readers check several times a day; but, will only count as one person).

You can then log-in to FeedBurner.com and click on the publicize tab and put a Feed Counter on your website.

This is good for showing off your readers and is really good for selling to advertisers.

Also, Feedburner since its owned by Google is already plugged in with Google Adsense so you can just put your Adsense publisher ID in and have it show Google Ads in your feed.

Total Blogging Failure!!!

Saturday
Jun 28,2008

Holy smoking failure! The last time I blogged was May 17th! Can you believe that?!

Epic Failure

Although we fail horribly, we get back up and give it another go! So that’s what I’ll be doing and aiming to post once per day or at least one post per two days on the busy weeks.

While I was away, lots of interesting stuff was discovered and soon I think I might give video blogging a shot. Although the thought of my face available via video to the rest of the world is a little creepy…

I think I would also like to setup a photo/video gallery of pictures I take, funny stuff I find, etc. That will give me something more to do than just writing….because I am kinda sucky at writing, lol.

Anyway, I’m back! :-)

Technology Multitasking Obssession

Saturday
May 10,2008

Either I’m just in the mood for information overload or I just spend way too much time on the computer. I have a lot of things I want to do ya know.

Watch a movie, listen to some new music, get data backed up, blog, get a few dvds burned all the while monitoring system resources. One of the things I really enjoy doing is getting a lot of things done at the same time. :-)

What am I doing right now?

  • Moving data from an external hard rive to be backed up on disc
  • Watching Superbad
  • Burning a dvd backup
  • Backing data to amazon S3
  • Blogging
  • Twittering
  • Chatting
  • Perusing a few forums and intermittently scanning my blog feeds in google reader
  • Monitoring temperatures and internet bandwidth usage
  • And… oddly enough listening to music

What would appear to be utter chaos and “noise” to some people is multitasking harmony to me! Is that strange? In all our fast paced lives, anything to get things done faster and more efficiently is the goal right? But has it become also an addiction?

We implement ways to do more and more things into everything in our lives, including while we’re just having fun. So we’re taking it past getting more done into a need for information at all times and more. I go outside to get away from technology every now and then and some of the things I see:

  • Cellphones
  • Laptops
  • iPhones (I want one so bad!)
  • MP3 players
  • TVs (they seem to be everywhere, gyms, schools, stores, etc.)
  • Radios

What kind of multitasking do you do? What technology helps you do even more?

Weekend Out In Nampa, ID

Monday
Apr 28,2008

Saturday morning I was abruptly awakened because my alarm didn’t go off. I had a 7:30am flight to catch so my brain was in freak out mode!

A few minutes later I realized I had set my phone alarm for the weekday and not the weekend….oops. It takes about 1 1/2 hours to get to the airport from where I live so I was out of luck since I woke up at 5:45am. I made a quick call to Southwest and rescheduled my flight for 10:25am and got out the door a few hours later.

To make things worse, the laptop I borrowed from my girlfriend for the weekend would crap out while trying to use the internet. Plus, the drivers weren’t installed for my Verizon Broadband card. So I paid $9 only to struggle with the internet not working.

I’ve been out in Nampa, ID since Saturday and haven’t really had any internet access until today when I actually had some time to get the laptop issue fixed.

So, here I am, waiting at the Boise airport with a few other people in a big empty building. I got the drivers setup for the Verizon Broadband card so I don’t have to pay for “Free Wireless”.

Had a pretty good weekend in terms of work though. I flew down here for business and managed to get a decent amount of stuff accomplished. Unfortunately I’m not a big camera guy so I didn’t take any pictures while I was here except right now at the airport (above). I need to work on that. Don’t worry though, you aren’t missing anything (it’s just desert down here).

So, in a few hours I’ll be back to Moscow and back to work! :-)
